Lester et moi revenons tout juste de Cherrueix, où nous avons couru le Challenge REVERT.
C'est une course régionale de la FFCV, et environ 120 chars étaient inscrits.
Lester courait en PROMO D1 et trouve que c'est mieux de peser 170 lbs dans cette classe quand on roule dans ce mélange de sable et de vase.
Le premier jour, j'ai roulé dans un classe 3 Formule A de 20 ans et j'ai compris pourquoi il est préférable de bien connaitre la plage et d'avoir un char récent. Je finis 26eme sur 30. Le 2cd jour, un de mes amis, C. Roger en classe 2, n'a pu faire la course et m'a prêté son tout nouveau char. J'ai fini 2cd sur 7 (j'ai même battu des locaux)
Maintenant, la plage. Elle est immense et la marée va si loin qu'on ne voit même plus la mer. Le maximum de marée est 36 pieds !
Au mieux, la plage est immense et sèche, avec des zones de vase éparses. Au pire, la plage entière est vaseuse. Le week-end où nous étions présents la plage était plus côté vase que côté sec . Dans les chars que je pilotais, j'ai reçu un peu de vase sur mon t.shirt, et un côté du char plein de vase(de ma faute pour être resté trop près du pilote devant moi). Les Promo D2, lors d'une des manches, sont allés près de la ligne de marée haute et sont revenus complètement trempés et couverts de boue (de la tête aux pieds). Les pilotes portaient ça comme un badge honorifique et paradaient avec un large sourire.
Lester et les gars de la D1 étaient relativement secs et légèrement couverts de vase. Lester avait un anorak et quant à moi, je pilotais en short et T.Shirt.
Le temps était magnifique et le site, qui se trouve à une douzaine de Km du Mont Saint Michel (impressionnant) est très beau. Les environs sont très peu habités et dans la campagne, les maisons sont typiquement françaises, en pierre, couvertes d'ardoises ou en toits de chaume. Il y a plein de restaurants, cafés ou bars à proximité. Nous avons trouvé un logement à louer à 800 m de la plage, et qui pourra être facilement accessible à vélo , ou même le team US pourrait utiliser un van ou quelques voitures. Ce logement que nous avons trouvé est un ensemble de trois maisons autour d'une cour dans la campagne, chacune de ces maisons peut recevoir 8 à 10 personnes et est à louer pour environ 1000$ la semaine.
Nous avons parlé au Président du Noroit Club , au maire de Cherrueix, serré la main au chef de la gendarmerie régionale et rencontré des habitants et autres acteurs du char à voile sur place. Le sentiment général était que l'organisation sera effective et que le championnat sera bien dirigé.
Ce sera une grande aventure quoi qu'il arrive...
Le mondial sera en juillet 2012 du 9 au 15.

Je voudrais aussi mentionner le gars qui était à la tireuse de bière au club. Nous avons immédiatement sympathisé même si on ne pouvait pas se parler. Il semblait comprendre ce que je disais.
Toutes les personnes de l'organisation. 120 chars à pointer et deux parcours à préparer chaque jour,. Ils ont travaillé dur.
Et spécialement Philipe Chauvel et sa famille pour s'être occupé de nous (et nous avoir supportés.)
Il nous a ouvert sa porte et offert trois repas par jour. Y inclus deux dîners vraiment formidables dans le restaurant de son bowling (12 pistes). Comme un vrai compétiteur (sur la plage ou sur les pistes du bowling) il faisait semblant de mal jouer, seulement pour nous écraser à la fin !
Dans la première compétition en double, challenge char à voile/bowling, ayant jamais eu lieu, entre français, belges et américains, ce sont les français qui gagnèrent. C'est la vie

Lester and myself just returned from Cherrueix where we raced in the "Revert de Cherrueix". It is a regional race in the French league and about 120 boats were entered.
Lester raced in the Promo D1 race (60 boats) and found out that is is best to be a 170 Lbs in this class when sailing in the mud and sand. The first day I raced in an 20 year old class 3 boat and found out why it is best to know the beach and have a newer boat. I finished 26th out of 38 boats. On the second day a good friend of mine ,Christophe Roger, in class 2, couldn't make it for the race and loaned me his brand new boat. I was able to finish 2nd out of 7 (I even beat some of the locals).
Now about the beach. It is huge and the tide goes out so far you can't even see the water. the maximum between high and low tide for the area is 36 feet! At best the beach is huge and dry with only the occasional muddy hole. At worst the entire beach is a muddy hole. The weekend we were there is was more on the muddy hole side than the dry beach side. In the boats I raced I only got a little mud on my shirt and one face full of mud (my fault for being too close to the guy in front of me). The Promo D2 class on the other hand got sent out close the the high tide line and got completly soaked and covered with mud (head to toe). The pilots wore it like a badge of honor and paraded around with big smiles. Lester and the D1 guys were relatively dry and only slightly covered with mud. Lester had a one piece spray suit to wear and I sailed in shorts and T-shirt for my races.
The weather was great and the location, which is about 7 miles south of Mount Saint Michelle (most impresive), is beautiful. The area is lightly populated and in the corn fields, the houses are typical french country made of stone and with either slate or thached roof's. there are plenty of restaurants, cafe's and bars close by. We found a place to rent that is around 1/2 a mile from the beach and could easily be ridable on a bike, even tho I think the team could use a van or a couple of cars. the place we found to stay is a complex of 3 classic houses around a courtyard in the countryside, each house can hadle 8 to 10 people and rents for around $1000 per week.
We talked to the President of the Noroit Club (and presented him with a SASSASS burgie), the Mayor of Cherrueix, shook hands with the Constable of the region and met with locals and other players in the dirtboating scene. the general thought was that the organization will be there and the event should be well run. It will be a grand adventure no matter what. The Worlds are July, 9th to 15th, 2012.

All the people involved with the organization of the event. 120 boats to score and 2 race courses to set every day, these people work hard.
And especially to Phillippe Chauvel and his family for putting us up (and putting up with us). He opened his door for us and fed us three meals every day. Including 2 really nice dinners at the banquet room at his Bowling alley (12 lanes). Like a true competitor (on the beach or the alleys) he sandbagged eary only to crush us in the end. In the first ever 2-man, French, Belgin, USA dirtboat bowling challenge, it was the French in first, Cei la vie.
